Selena straddled the line between Old Hollywood and modern chic when she appeared in Elle wearing a Marilyn-like blonde wig, va-va-va-voom black fishnet tights by Falke, a pin-up inspired pink Chanel tweed skirt, and a darling Chanel top with a Peter Pan collar. The look is half-vamp, half-innocent and Selena absolutely works it. Now, here’s where things get really interesting: Selena’s makeup look. According to the star’s Instagram, her makeup artist is no other than Hung Vanngo (a giant in the industry who has also worked with Jennifer Lopez and Bella Hadid). Her brows are deep and extended ala 1950s starlet, her lashes are so long you could trip on them, and Vanngo combined a smoky eye with seriously goth red lips. The makeup used is from Selena own brand, Rare Beauty. One thing is certain: If Rare Beauty’s mascara is able to achieve that level of lash length, bring it on.
After a few years of struggling with health issues like lupus, chemotherapy, and a kidney transplant, and a few intensely public breakups with celebs we needn’t mention, Selena is back and better than ever. In her interview with Elle, the 29-year-old actress reveals that during the height of the COVID pandemic, she was following strict on-set protocols to bring us the Hulu show Only Murders in the Building with Steven Martin and Martin Short. But that wasn’t her only project. She was also hard at work shooting Selena + Chef, where Selena is instructed by a famous chef (remotely) on how to create different delicious dishes. And, as a producer, she is juggling two important projects: Living Undocumented, a Netflix documentary series about human trafficking and undocumented immigrants, and Shadow of the Mountain, a biopic (which she is also starring in) about Peruvian Silvia Vásquez-Lavado, the first openly gay woman to clim the Seven Summits.
Selena is a woman who is going places. And, judging by the Elle photoshoot, she is also still very much a style icon.
