Selena Gomez has recently opened up about her personal experiences in quarantine, and its impact on her mental health. The 27-year-old spoke with Puma to talk about how she’s been coping during social distancing.
Gomez explained her own anxieties surrounding COVID-19: “Like everyone else, I am feeling unsettled and going through a variety of emotions during this time. For that reason, I think it’s important to stay informed and be aware of the latest news, but also take breaks from it because it can be overwhelming.”
She also shared her strategies on staying calm and grounded despite the current uncertainty, explaining, "Reading and listening to music have been a huge factor in keeping me calm."
The artist, who is working from home in a makeshift studio, considers herself lucky when it comes to isolation because she is not quarantining alone.
"I feel very lucky I have my grandparents staying with me and a couple of friends. I know not everyone is that lucky and people are feeling isolated and lonely," she explained.
However, she also emphasized the importance of reconnecting with friends who you may not be able to see for awhile: "Picking up the phone and calling people has never been more important. Also checking in with people even if you haven’t connected in a while."
This is not the first time Gomez has used her platform to discuss her struggles with anxiety and depression. Earlier in 2020, she spoke to the Wall Street Journal about her diagnosis.
The singer explained, "My highs were really high, and my lows would take me out for weeks at a time. I found out I do suffer from mental health issues. And, honestly, that was such a relief. I realized that there was a way to get help and to find people that you trust."
