Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s new album, I Said I Love You First, dropped today, and it is already sending the internet ablaze! Thanks to several song lyrics that are seemingly directed at her ex, Justin Bieber, the record’s tracks are getting a lot of buzz.
Although fans are excited for Selena to celebrate her relationship with Benny on songs like “Sunset Blvd” and “How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten,” there’s no question the new album is heavily influenced by the ongoing drama from her past relationship with Bieber and his marriage with Hailey. Selena wishes she 'never loved' her ex
While the entire new album from the trending duo seems to have several catchy singles, one of the more popular tracks is "Younger And Hotter Than Me," a ballad sung solo by the Emilia Pérez actress.
The song, which was written in collaboration with Grammy award-winning artist FINNEAS, details Selena's tumultuous experience with an ex during her younger days.
"I hate myself more for thinking you were different, wish I never loved you," she sings.
The singer hints at wishing she never had feelings for her ex and later points out that his future girlfriends were younger than her. These lines have fans stewing online, as they can't help but notice that she very well could be singing about Justin, given his wife, the Rhode founder, is four years younger than her.
Fans think Selena's new songs are about Justin
Although I Said I Love You First has only been out for a day, fans have a lot to say about it on the internet. Out of all the commentary about the Only Murders In The Building star's vocals and Benny's songwriting, her ex's name keeps popping up.
One X user wrote that Selena is "obsessed with Justin," while other fans are commenting that she "dodged a bullet" by dumping him, given her vulnerable writing.
"Younger And Hotter Than Me" isn't the only song on I Said I Love You First that has juicy lyrics about exes. For example, the Disney Channel alum sings, "I hope one day you heal" and "Look at you now" on the track "How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten?"
These potential references don't come long after reports that Justin has been laying low amid the birth of his son, Jack, and his recent health issues. It will be interesting to see if he chooses to make any comments on his ex-girlfriend's latest music.
Benny and Selena prove they are still going strong
The two award-winning artists have been nothing but smiles while doing interviews and sharing promotional posts leading up to their album's debut.
