Selena Gomez has addressed a viral TikTok video that discusses the alleged “changes” in her facial appearance over the years amidst ongoing rumors and speculations about plastic surgery. Over the weekend, the Rare Beauty mogul, 32, left a comment on a video posted by Marissa Barrionuevo, a plastic surgery physician assistant at Farber Plastic Surgery in Boca Raton, Florida.
This resurfaced post, originally shared in April 2023, recently gained widespread attention. In the clip, Barrionuevo responds to a request from a commenter asking her to break down the evolution of Gomez’s facial features and to speculate on the possible cosmetic procedures and treatments the “Love On” singer might have undergone.

Selena Gomez Urges TikTok Users To ‘Leave Her Alone’ Regarding Her Alleged Facial ‘Changes’ Amid Surgery Rumors
In the video, Barrionuevo pulled up two photos of the Only Murders in the Building actress and placed them side-by-side for comparison. One was from the 2010s and the other was taken during her red carpet appearance at the 2023 Golden Globes. The TikTok creator refrained from guessing about any work Gomez might have undergone, emphasizing that the “Hands to Myself” hitmaker has “been through so much in her life, especially medically-related.”
Though Barrionuevo uploaded the video more than a year ago, it appears that Gomez only discovered it recently, as she left a comment on the upload earlier this week. In her response, the Wizards of Waverly Place alum candidly disclosed the cosmetic procedures she has undergone but expressed her disdain for videos that analyze her looks.

“Honestly I hate this. I was on stripes because of flare up. I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone,” Gomez wrote beneath Barrionuevo’s original video. The physician’s assistant subsequently posted a follow-up video, featuring a screenshot of Gomez’s comment, where she extended her apologies to the actress. “I really hope Selena Gomez does not hate me,” Barrionuevo said in her July 27th post.
The TikToker also explained that she “agrees” with Gomez that people should “leave [her] alone” when it comes to input about her face. Barrionuevo also said she believes that Gomez doesn’t “owe it to anyone to tell us why you don’t look the same as when you did when you were a teenager or in your 20s.”
Barrionuevo went on to say that she “adores” Gomez and noted that it was “never, ever [her] intention” to “tear people down” in her aforementioned video. “I really do mean the best, so I apologize if this rubbed you the wrong way in any way whatsoever,” she continued.
Barrionuevo captioned this follow-up clip: "Although I always try to lead with grace and mindfulness, I am sorry this upset you (and I understand why it did). I decided to stop making videos like this last year because of the negative impact it can cause. It was never my intention. ILY I hope we can move past this and be besties."

Gomez seemed to have accepted Barrionuevo's apology, as evidenced by her July 28th comment on the follow-up video. The Emmy winner wrote: “I love you. Not about you. I just get sad sometimes.”
Gomez has candidly shared her ongoing health struggles and triumphs over mental health challenges following her lupus diagnosis.
Two years before making her condition public, she underwent chemotherapy to combat the autoimmune disease. At the age of 24, she required a kidney transplant due to organ damage caused by lupus.
In 2015, Gomez disclosed her battle with this chronic, incurable illness that affects the immune system. She has also informed fans about the side effects of her medication, which include weight gain.
Before addressing the recent fan speculation and accusations about cosmetic surgery, Gomez also responded to a particularly harsh comment on Instagram in December 2023. An IG user from the account @popfactions suggested that Gomez should “remove your cheek fillers/implants” and claimed they were affecting her brain.
This comment appeared under a post announcing that Gomez was dating music producer Benny Blanco. In her comeback, Gomez replied, “Hahahaha I’ve had Botox bb girl.”
