Selena Gomez Opens Up About Hitting Rock Bottom
With new music and a new relationship, the "Lose You to Love Me" singer seems to be living her best life right now; but it wasn't always this way. Selena got very candid while speaking on the mental health panel, and explained that she had to hit rock bottom before seeking the right help and finally getting to where she is today.
The "Love On" singer has been open with her fans about suffering with the autoimmune disease lupus, as well as anxiety and bipolar disorder. While speaking on the panel, Selena reflected on her mental health struggles which she addressed in her 2022 Apple TV+ documentary, My Mind and Me, and confessed: "I will say this, you can't force someone to do it (address their mental health.) It just doesn't work. There was a lot of people that cared about me more than I cared about myself that really wanted me to do things I wasn't ready for."
"I had to hit my rock bottom and I had to do it at my time. I'd like to think and hope that I'm in a better place now," she continued.
"It makes me sick to hear the things that I was saying about myself in the beginning. It bums me out. But I think everyone can relate to that feeling. It's important to speak to yourself with kindness, but I don't think I really understood that. It's funny because all the things I was [expletive] about then, I'm grateful for now."
