Selena Gomez has come under fire after posting – and then deleting – a video of herself reacting to the news that 956 people were arrested on Sunday, January 26th amid President Donald Trump‘s nationwide immigration crackdown. 286 arrests were reportedly made on Saturday, January 25th, with 593 made on Friday 24th, and 538 arrests on Thursday 23rd.
The 32-year-old Only Murders in the Building actress shared a video of herself in tears, alongside the caption, “I’m sorry,” followed by a Mexican flag emoji. She then deleted the video after receiving backlash for it, which then caused her to face even more backlash.
“All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand,” The Emilia Pérez star says in the video, while crying. She then adds: “I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”
After deleting the video, the Rare Beauty founder shared a short message on her Instagram Story, which read: “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.”
X user @EndWokeness shared the video on January 27th, as well as a screenshot of the newly-engaged singer and actress’s Instagram Story, alongside the caption: “Selena Gomez just posted a video crying about deportations, but deleted it after outrage from fans.” And as expected, there were a *lot* of reactions!
