We’re always searching for better ways to prolong our iPhone’s battery — after all, the device is an expensive investment and one that we want to last. Using certain energy-draining apps aren’t the only reason why your battery may be dwindling more than usual. Tech Expert Ben Taylor, Apple Certified Associate and founder of HomeWorkingClub.com, spoke to SHEFinds.com about the one setting Apple experts say you should turn off now to double your battery life.

Out of all of your iPhone’s settings, there is one that you can quickly adjust that will effectively boost your device’s battery.

“The one thing you should do to boost your iPhone battery power is really simple: reduce the screen brightness,” Taylor says.

According to Taylor, nothing uses as much battery as powering the screen, and pulling the brightness back by a few notches can make a real difference. “You will probably find you barely notice after a few minutes either,” Taylor says. “You can always boost it temporarily if you need to.”

If you’ve lowered your screen brightness and you’re ready to step up your battery-saving behaviors even more, Francesca Nicasio, Content Marketer at Payment Depot, has another suggestion: set up mail to be pushed to your phone immediately or fetched at certain intervals.

“When was the last time you got an email that needed your immediate attention?” Nicasio says. “How often you check your email can make a big difference to your phone's battery.”

Fetching mail at intervals (the less, the better) saves battery life, according to Nicasio. “To change your email setup, go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > Fetch New Data,” Nicasio says. “For best results, turn push off and reduce your fetch interval or set it to manual. If you still need certain mail immediately, you can set push-only on these senders from this menu.”

Making these two fast and easy changes to your iPhone settings may just keep you from needing to replace your old battery so soon.
