How long can your smartphone hold a charge without dying? If you can answer that question using the fingers on only one hand, you may have a problem — and your phone settings may be the biggest problem of all. The apps and settings that you use or don’t use have an effect on your device’s battery and the sooner you can figure out which to enable or disable, the longer your iPhone battery will last and the more convenient it will be for you. We spoke with experts who let us in on the one setting that is completely wrecking your iPhone battery life.

How bright do you prefer to keep your screen? Your answer may be directly related to the time it takes for your phone’s battery to dwindle to below 20 percent. As it turns out, one of the biggest culprits behind battery drainage is not adjusting your screen brightness settings.

“If you notice your iPhone battery is low and about to die, the first thing you should do is turn down the screen brightness,” says  Aaron Haynes, a tech expert & CEO at Loganix.com. “Screen brightness is quite heavy on the battery, and turning it down low can help you preserve an extra 30-60 minutes of your battery.”

In addition to lowering your screen brightness, two more battery-boosting tips that will help relieve the pressure on your battery can also help protect your privacy. Hasnain Khokhawala, security expert at Technography, cautions that you should always only turn on Location Service when you need it so that it isn’t constantly running your battery down and turn off background apps for the same reason.

“It affects the battery because when your data is on, background apps are open, location is on so naturally the phone is continuously running and it's burning so your battery is getting lower,” Khokhawala says.”So you have to change your setting and changing the setting will help extend battery life until you can charge your phone.”

Following these three simple tips can boost your battery life and it won’t take up more than a few minutes of your day to adjust these settings.
