The Most Unflattering Shade Of Eye Makeup For Your Hair Color, According To Beauty Experts

If you’re looking for the best way to boost your beauty look, one hack is to coordinate your hair and makeup–specifically your eye makeup. Choosing the right makeup shades to pair with your hair color can play a huge role in your final look. It is also important to consider your skin tone when choosing the right hair color for you. Whether you have blonde, brunette, red, or black hair, when you choose the right makeup that complements your hair color, you can highlight your best facial features. Similarly, choosing the wrong eye makeup color for your hair color could end up looking unflattering.

To learn more about what kind of eye makeup is the most flattering for your hair color, we spoke with Dr. Anna Chacon, a board-certified dermatologist and writer with MyPsorasisTeam. She said that when it comes to blonde, brunette, red, and black hair, there are different eye makeup shades that work best. Read on to learn more!

Blonde hair

Whether you're Miley Cyrus-blonde, Reese Witherspoon-blonde, or Margot Robbie-blonde, it's important to consider your hair color when choosing the best eye makeup color for your blonde shade. "The tones of taupe, neutral, and bronze look gorgeous with blonde hair," Chacon says. "For a straightforward, everyday eye look, apply any of these colors all over the lids. Apply a shimmering bronze hue in the center of the lids for a wide-eyed look if you'd like extra glitter."

Brunette hair

When it comes to brunettes, you guys have the best of both worlds. Chacon says that almost all eye makeup shades compliment brown hair. "Anywhere on the color wheel, most brunettes look well wearing warm brown, mocha, coffee, and light tawny eyeshadow hues. Most skin tones, eye colors, and clothing may be matched with these hues," she explains. "The majority of brunettes also look good with eyeshadow in the hues of plum, lavender, and violet."

Red hair and gingers

Whether you're born with this fiery hair color or adopted the red color with permanent dye, there are certain eye makeup trends that won't work for your hair color. "Black liner looks best on ladies with vibrant red hair, such as dark berries and cherries. Stick to brown eyeliner if you're an auburn, copper, or strawberry blonde since black might be too sharp of a contrast," Chacon says. And when it comes to eye shadows, she suggests "pink, taupe, and peach" hues.

Black hair

For women with beautiful dark hair, like Kendall Jenner, Chacon notes that it's best to highlight your eyes with "smokey hues like navy and charcoal." She says that you should, "Apply a charcoal-colored pencil along the top and bottom lash lines to create smoldering eyes, and then cover it with a navy eyeshadow." Noted!
