Sharon Stone has been well known in Hollywood since the 1992 hit Basic Instinct, but after suffering a stroke in 2001, the actress felt as though she lost some of her “radiance.” She recently sat down for an interview with Oprah, sharing the impact the stroke had on her life, and how she’s moved forward since.

Speaking of the aftermath of her near-fatal stroke, Stone revealed to Oprah, “My radiance went away. It isn't so much your beauty as your radiance.” She went on to explain, “It comes from health and well-being and youth. I think it comes from confidence, too," she added. "I think that when you're in this kind of business that you're in, they start telling you that you don't have it anymore and you start believing it."
Following her stroke, Stone took a two year hiatus from acting, but admitted to Variety in 2019 that it took years for her to fully recover from the health scare. “People treated me in a way that was brutally unkind,” she said. “From other women in my own business to the female judge who handled my custody case, I don’t think anyone grasps how dangerous a stroke is for women and what it takes to recover — it took me about seven years.”
Stone revealed that it was as though people had completely forgotten about her following her health scare, and she lost nearly everything. “I had to remortgage my house. I lost everything I had. I lost my place in the business. I was like the hottest movie star, you know?” she said. “It was like Miss Princess Diana and I were so famous — and she died and I had a stroke. And we were forgotten.”
However, Stone seems to now be reclaiming her power in her age, sharing with Winfrey, “I believe that's because it's the first time in your life when your worth becomes so much more. You become the most powerful than you've ever been.”
