Shawn Mendes has just written a heartbreaking open letter to his fans about feeling “overwhelmed and overstimulated,” among other things, but admitted that he was scared to be so candid about his up and down emotions in case they thought less of him or “got bored” of him!

“I’m afraid that if people know and see the truth, they might think less of me. They might become bored of me,” the 23-year-old “It’ll Be Okay” singer wrote on his Twitter account on April 20th, via a screenshot of an iPhone note he had written the message on. “So in those moments of feeling low, I either put on a show or hide. The truth in current form is a 23-year-old who constantly feels like he’s either flying or drowning. Maybe that’s just what it is to be in your 20s, idk, or maybe that’s just me.”

“The truth is even with so much success, I still find it hard to feel like I’m not failing,” Mendes continued. “Hyper-focused on what I don’t have, forgetting to see all that I do. The truth is I am overwhelmed and overstimulated. Lol. The truth is ALSO that I’m okay. I’m just tryna tell and be the truth. I like to think that maybe me saying this might resonate with some people.”

As expected, the “Señorita” hitmaker received a huge outpouring of support from his fans, many of whom tried to make him feel less alone in the comments section. “I’m 38 and that feeling never goes away,” one fan wrote, while another added, “i think i speak for everyone in their 20s when i say we’re all either flying or drowning.” Another fan, who presumably felt a lot of the same emotions as Shawn, wrote, “I felt so much comfort reading this,” preceded by two blue heart emojis. Another fan said that they would support him no matter what, writing: “You know what’s coolest about being a fan? It’s this strength, sytonia in wanting to support our idol in everything he needs. Know that, I love you just the way you are. Nothing is going to change!”

Shawn received over 128,000 likes, over 27,000 retweets, and over 7,000 comments, so we aren’t shocked to see that he took to Twitter later that same day to reassure the more concerned fans that, despite his "big old note," he was actually okay.

"I’m honestly so okay! I just wanna communicate with you guys in a real honest way. So I just typed a big old note out for you lol," the "When You're Gone" musician tweeted, before saying he knows he isn’t the only one to feel the way he does, and doesn’t want other people going through the same thing to feel alone. "And I guess I’m like [expletive] if I’m feeling this with all of the blessings I have, I imagine there must be so many people feeling this and just don’t want them to feel alone!!"
