When you are trying to lose weight, it is important to pay just as much attention to the beverages you drink as you pay to the foods you eat. Even if you eat the most healthy meals and cut back on snacking, ingesting sugary beverages regularly could negate all of the benefits of your diet. And there is one sugary drink that most people think is healthy, but it is actually destroying your metabolism.
While tea is a generally healthy and beneficial drink, many store-bought iced teas are the opposite. This type of drink is often loaded with sugar and carbs, which can slow down your metabolism and might even cause weight gain.
Though you might assume that iced tea is better for you when compared to even worse drinks like soda or sugary coffees, the truth is that the amount of sugar in iced tea makes this drink no better than soda.
Sugar can easily lead to weight gain, particularly if you exceed the daily recommended intake of 30 grams per day. A bottle of pre-made iced tea can contain as much as 42 grams of sugar, which is more than a serving of most types of soda.
For a healthier way to drink iced tea, try brewing it yourself at home. This way, you can choose to keep it unsweetened or control how much sugar you add to the drink.
