Use Sunscreen, All The Time
UV rays from the sun are one of the most damaging causes of wrinkles. And once the sun damage sets in, it's hard to repair it away. Get into the practice of using sunscreen on your face every day, even if it's just a small amount like SPF 15. There are a ton of creams and foundations with SPF to keep your skin safe.
And skincare experts warn that the sun is always a threat to your skin, even in the winter. Dr. Ginni Mansberg, creator of ESK Skincare, told SheFinds, "Sunscreen is not what most people think of in winter, but the sun’s UVA rays are constant during daylight hours throughout the year. And given that the sun's UVA rays are estimated to be responsible for 80% of premature aging, your skin will thank you."
Use Self Tanner For A Healthy Glow
Speaking of sun protection, Vergara recommends skipping natural sun tanning altogether in favor of a self tanner. This helps you achieve a healthy-looking glow, without risking the damage caused by UV rays.
According to the actress' dermatologist Dendy Engelman, MD, "Her favorite self-tanner is Vita Liberata Mousse. Once dried, she finishes with Moroccanoil Instant Radiance Shimmering Body Oil for a warm, bronzed glow.”
Never Skip Your Nightly Cleanse
We all have those late nights when we just want to crawl into bed, skipping our nighttime beauty practices. But even skipping one cleanse every once in a while can damage your skin. Cleansing your skin keeps signs of aging at bay by removing dirt, excess oil and makeup from your pores. If you don't cleanse at the end of your day, these pollutants may cause damage to your skin, which leads to wrinkles or dryness.
"I take my makeup off every night with a sponge—like a little soft, nonabrasive sea sponge that I change once a week—and then I use a mild soap," Vergara said of her beauty routine. "I'm very religious about taking my makeup off every night."
Look For Oils In Your Beauty Products
Never underestimate the power of oils in your skincare products. Vergara told Health, "After I wash at night, I’ve been using a calendula oil—it’s good for sensitive skin and has really been calming my skin. It’s really oily and nice, so I put it everywhere."
Calendula oil is anti-inflammatory and nourishing. It can hydrate skin and promote a firm, clear complexion. Other great oils to look for include jojoba oil, coconut oil and rosehip seed oil.
