Social media apps keep us connected to the world at large and provide a way for us to decompress and have a little fun at the end of (or in the middle of) a hectic day.

But these feature-heavy apps all share one not-great thing in common: they can be taxing on your iPhone battery.

This is the one social media app you should delete ASAP if your iPhone battery is always dying.

Most social media apps — including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and WhatsApp — are more draining on your iPhone battery than other apps. Though the reasons for this differ slightly depending on the app you’re using, the reality is that all are intense on features and work pretty much continuously to deliver the services that you expect from a social media app.

But one stands out as particularly draining.

Snapchat

According to a report by Avast, Snapchat is the fifth worst app for draining battery power, after Samsung WatchON, Samsung Video Editor, Netflix, and Spotify.

One reason why Snapchat depletes battery fast is because it relies on you using your camera to snap and send photos.

“The camera uses a ton of battery life and can really drain your phone battery if you have it open for long periods of time throughout the day,” reports PSafe.

Even though other social media apps, Facebook specifically, are total battery hogs and consume an incredible amount of data, one thing sets Snapchat apart from Facebook: you can actually delete the Facebook app and access Facebook via your browser, which conserves battery and data.

Unfortunately, Snapchat is only accessible via its app.

Aside from completely deleting Snapchat, there are few ways to mitigate the effect it has on battery life.

But if you really, really love Snapchat and can’t live without it, PSafe recommends taking the following step:

“A great way to reduce how much battery Snapchat is using is by turning Snapchat on ‘Travel Mode’ in the app’s settings. By turning it to travel mode, Snapchat will run less in the background and save you battery.”

Even small steps count when it comes to conserving your iPhone battery.
