Before you assume Facebook is the one and only social media app that should be deleted ASAP if data sharing is your concern, we regret to inform you that there are a few others that belong in the sketchy category. Social media will always provide an amazing distraction, as well as a way of connecting, but several platforms are taking advantage of users’ loyalty and the data that are willing to share with the public. If privacy is an issue for you, experts agree: this is the one social media app you should delete immediately because it shares your data the most.
It’s A Tie
Actually, there isn’t just one social media app that’s worth mentioning on this list, because two are worth noting — and, surprisingly, neither is Facebook.
“Many people still don’t know that several social media applications share their data,” says Steven Walker, CEO of Spylix. “Most of the social media applications don’t share all of the data everywhere, but some might shock you. According to the most recent study done by the mobile marketing company Mobile Genius, it is found that YouTube and TikTok are social media applications that share a lot of data of their users without telling them. Further, this study states that, still, there is no clue where they use that data.”
That alone may concern you enough to consider deleting your TikTok and YouTube accounts. “With that, we can estimate how critical this case is,” Walker says. “They can use data anywhere wherever they want without telling that person. In my opinion, these are the two applications that we should delete from our devices.”
Though it may be a challenge to stay away from at first, deleting TikTok is simple to actually do. Walker advises that even though it may seem like YouTube is hard to delete, it can also be used without an account. “And the difficulty of data-stealing rises when you buy its premium,” Walker says.
