If your New Year’s motto is: “new year, new tech habits,” one of the best places to start is by pruning your social media content. Some social media apps are simply more stress-inducing and taxing on your device, and doing without them can be beneficial to you — AND to your phone. Jennifer Willy, editor at Etia.com, shared her tips on the four social media apps no one should have on their phones anymore in 2021.

Facebook

If you still have the Facebook app on your phone, it may be time to send it over to the trash, Willy says. “It not only successfully invades privacy and collects user data but also drains our battery,” Willy says. “Its application is among the top battery-eating app and it is better to uninstall it.”

Snapchat

Snapchat has various privacy issues that make it an iffy social media app that keep on your phone. “Even though it has been banned by various countries, the app still poses a threat as illegal downloads are always on the go,” Willy says.

YouTube

Spending hours watching YouTube videos on your laptop is one thing, but if you choose to do the same on your phone you will likely experience issues. “It drains our battery in a wink,” Willy says. “Most of us are fond of watching videos on this app, but no one can deny that it quickly saps our phone’s life.”

TikTok

Fans of the latest social media craze won’t be happy to hear this, but TikTok has risen to the top of many a tech expert’s list when it comes to apps that are better left alone.

“TikTok is a popular video-sharing app with millions of users around the globe,” Willy says, “Apart from privacy and battery draining issue, it has various other problems like no age restriction, use of inappropriate language, illegal downloads, etc.”

Parting ways with any of the apps on this list might not be easy, but losing them can immediately boost your battery power — and maybe even reduce your stress levels.
