Social Media Is Losing It After Reports Say Apple Flew 5 Airplanes Full Of iPhones To Avoid Tariffs: ‘Smuggling’

Apple reportedly brought their products in to the US in as fast as fashion as possible to avoid tariff increases, which would like result in Apple needing to hike up the price of its products. A majority of Apple goods are manufactured in China, Vietnam, and India, all of which are subject to tariffs (China being hit the hardest with the largest tariff increase). Apple isn’t the only company to make swift moves: Nintendo also reportedly shipped products earlier than usual, with a reported 383,000 units of Switch 2 being shipped across five days in January to avoid tariffs.

As of now, Apple hasn’t said that it plans to increase the price of its goods, but it will have more iPhone sitting in its warehouse in the U.S. for the time being.

Depending on their thoughts about tariffs, commenters took to social media to express their opinions on the matter. One commenter on Instagram was skeptical: “They'll still sell them at tariffs prices.” Another shared a similar sentiment: “Apple will do anything to avoid paying taxes in US.”

But other commenters expressed their understanding of Apple’s decision. “Smart business,” one wrote. Another shared, “As long as they did it before the tariffs took effect is genius!”

Whether customers will in fact see a price increase in Apple products remains to be seen.
