Some people prefer to keep their Facebook identity and their work (or other real life) identity separate. If that sounds like you, keep in mind: anyone who does a search for you on a browser site can still locate your profile and view any posts and images that you have set to public.
Luckily, there’s a Facebook setting that can secure your privacy.
According to Lifehack: “Do you want anyone to find your Facebook posts when they type your name into a search engine? How about prospective employers? You can quickly turn off search engine indexing by unchecking the “Let other search engines link to your timeline” box in Facebook’s privacy settings.”
There’s another way anyone can look you up: through Facebook itself by just knowing your email address and phone number. Lifehacker lets us in on another setting change that can prevent that:
“If you want to prevent members of the public from looking up your Facebook account using your phone number or email address, then visit Facebook’s privacy settings, navigate to the ‘Who can look me up?’ section, and change the drop-down menu option to ‘Friends’ or ‘Friends of Friends.’”
One final way to maintain more control over your Facebook is by limiting your Facebook friends’ ability to tag you in random photos. View those tags first (and then decide if you want them on your page) by making this change in Facebook’s Time and Tagging section.
