Sofía Vergara Shares The Real Reason Behind Her And Joe Manganiello's Divorce
The Griselda actress went on, telling El País that she felt like having a child at her age would not be "fair to the baby." Vergara explained: "I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore." Vergara expressed that she is prepared to embark on the next chapter of her life, as she shares one son Manolo, 32, with her previous spouse, Joe Gonzalez.
"I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother," the Modern Family star added. "So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children." She continued: "I’m almost in menopause; it’s the natural way of things. When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life; that’s what I have to do."
Vergara and Manganiello shared a statement in July 2023 with fans, noting that they made the "difficult decision" to separate after being married for seven years.
"As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives," the Emmy nominee and True Blood actor wrote.
At the time, an insider reportedly close to the duo told Page Six that they had been "growing apart for a while now and are taking some distance from each other to contemplate their future."
Two days after their joint statement was made public, the Magic Mike alum filed for divorce, and he cited "irreconcilable differences."
Since their split, Manganiello has found a new romantic partner and has already taken a step forward in their relationship. Last month, he and his girlfriend, Caitlin O'Connor, 33, made their first appearance together on the red carpet at the Children of Armenia Fund Gala held in New York City.
As for Vergara, she appeared on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last week, and optimistically told fans that she is "single now."
