Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas shocked fans last month when they announced their plans to divorce, and their separation has been further exacerbated by a recent lawsuit.

In the weeks since their joint statement about their split, insider reports have shed light on the reason behind their tumultuous breakup, with a source telling Us Weekly that the Game of Thrones actress, 27, allegedly dumped the Jonas Brothers singer, 34, because he was “too controlling.”

“Sophie says Joe was too controlling,” the insider explained. They added: “She also said Joe liked to flirt a little too much while out in public, but then he wouldn’t like it when she would get too close to her male friends. It was clear their marriage was crumbling.”

Why Did Sophie Turner And Joe Jonas Separate? Insiders Share More Details

According to another source cited by the outlet, the frequency of Jonas' tours and his lack of time spent with his wife and two daughters served as a catalyst for the heightened tension in their relationship. "Sophie didn’t want to always be 'the Jonas brother’s wife,'" they said. "She didn’t want to go on tour and do everything together. It’s not her personality, and she wanted to keep their family separate from all the Jonas Brothers hoopla."

A third source told the publication that Turner was experiencing feelings of being "overwhelmed" as she juggled her acting career, raising their kids and dealing with his frequent absences due to his music career. "Being a mom on the road is not easy, even when you have unlimited resources," they noted. "It was just hard for them to settle into a regular routine because of Joe’s career especially."

Jonas and Turner began dating in 2016 and tied the knot in 2019. They share two daughtersWilla, 3, and Delphine, 1. In a ruling made by a Manhattan federal judge on October 3rd, the ex-couple are slated to appear in court at the start of next year to resolve a custody dispute concerning their two young children.

On September 6th, the former couple shared a joint statement to their Instagram pages. "After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage," Turner and Jonas wrote. "There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children," they added.

Billboard reported that on September 5th, Jonas initiated divorce proceedings in Miami-Dade County, Florida, claiming that the marriage was irreparably damaged. In the court documents, he stated that "the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken."

As indicated in court documents filed on October 10th, Turner and Jonas have arrived at a temporary child custody agreement. Under the terms of the order, Turner will have custody of their two children from October 9th until October 21st, after which Jonas will have them until November 2nd.

This pattern will repeat, with Turner having custody until November 22nd, followed by Jonas until December 16th, and Turner again until January 7th. Notably, the order permits Turner to travel back to the U.K. with the children. Previously, the ex-partners had agreed to keep the children in New York under a temporary order.

The Dark Phoenix alum and pop star are currently embroiled in a legal dispute regarding the residence of their  children. Turner initiated the lawsuit, seeking the return of their offspring to their permanent residence in England. The DNCE member has been accused of retaining the children unlawfully in New York City and withholding their passports.

Jonas has released a statement in which he maintains that handing over the passports would constitute a breach of the Florida court order related to his divorce proceedings. However, he expressed that he is content with the idea of his children being raised in both countries.

Jonas had been traveling with the kids and a nanny during his US tour while Turner, was busy filming a new series in the U.K. It was agreed that Turner would fly to NYC  in mid-September to retrieve the children and return them to the U.K., as stated in her filing. However, their divorce announcement came before this plan could be put into action.
