Wrinkles; eventually they happen to everyone–but don’t cry just yet. While aging may be a scary reality that we all have to face, not all hope is lost. It is possible to achieve youthful looking skin without the need for cosmetic procedures. If you’re searching for a natural method to smoothing wrinkles, consider starting from within.

The saying “beauty starts from within” isn’t just something sweet that mom used to tell you–it’s really true! The things you eat and drink can actually do more for your skin than topical products. That’s why everyone used to tell you to drink more water for clearer skin growing up. It all starts with the way we nourish our bodies from the inside, out.

Now that your skin concerns have turned from acne to wrinkles, Brierley Wright, M.S., R.D. explains the importance of drinking soy milk to combat signs of aging.

Soy milk is great for firming and reducing the number of wrinkles on your skin.

“The isoflavones in soy milk may help to preserve skin-firming collagen,” said Wright to EatWell.com.

Collagen is responsible for keeping your skin plump and supple. After the age of 30, the body’s natural collagen production slows down. This eventually leads to loose and sagging skin and the development of wrinkles.

A study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, looked at the anti-aging effects of dietary isoflavones [found in soymilk] on photoaged hairless mouse skin. It was found that the mice fed isoflavones had fewer wrinkles, smoother skin, and more collagen than those who did not get isoflavones.

Because of these findings, experts believe that drinking soy milk can help with collagen levels and therefore give you younger looking, less wrinkled skin. So, drink up!
