Star Wars enthusiasts were thrilled when Hayden Christensen returned as Anakin Skywalker in the first season of the prequel series Ahsoka in 2023. Now, the buzz in Tinseltown suggests that Natalie Portman might reprise her role as Padmé Amidala in the show’s second season on Disney+.

Naturally, fans can’t get enough of the idea, taking to social media to share their thoughts. Podcast host Kristian Harloff disclosed that the May December actress, 43, might soon come back to the far, far away galaxy, suggesting that Portman is nearing an agreement with the studio.

'Star Wars' Fans Go Wild Over Speculation That Natalie Portman Could Reprise Her Role As Padmé Amidala

He said, as reported by CBR, "It'd probably be a world between worlds type thing which, if you think about it, makes sense with the Ewan McGregor of it all and the young Ahsoka." McGregor, 53, as Harloff noted, played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy and later reprised his role in the 2022 Disney+ series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Harloff added: "What I'm hearing [is that Portman is] open to it. I don't know if it's a signed deal yet, but I think that it's pretty close."

Portman first appeared as Padmé Amidala in 1999's The Phantom Menace, the initial prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy (1977-1983). As the courageous Queen of Naboo, she led efforts to protect her planet from invasion. In 2002's Attack of the Clones, she transitions to her role as a senator, striving to avert war within the Republic. During this period, she forms a close bond with Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), and despite the Jedi Order's prohibitions on attachments, they fall in love.

By 2005's Revenge of the Sith, Padmé is secretly married to Anakin and expecting twins. Their joy is shattered when Anakin, plagued by visions of her demise, succumbs to the dark side. Despite her attempts to save him, he is already lost to Darth Sidious (Ian McDiarmid). Heartbroken and feeling betrayed, Padmé loses the will to live after giving birth to Luke and Leia, portrayed by Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher in the prior trilogy.

Regarding the idea of Portman reprising her beloved character, one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "That would be cool, I always loved Natalie Portman in the Star Wars Universe." Another added: "whoa!" as someone else noted: "Can't wait to see her again." An additional user concurred, writing: "The streets need Natalie Portman back as Padmé no cap, this is gonna be peak cinema." One other tweeted: "I'd actually LOVE that!"

What Natalie Portman Has Said About Possibly Returning To The Galaxy Far, Far Away

During GQ's Actually Me segment, when questioned about possibly rejoining the Star Wars universe in 2023, Portman expressed her willingness to return if approached. However, she noted that, up to that point, no one had reached out to her about taking on her role again.

At the time, the Black Swan alum noted: "I have no information on this." She added: "No one has ever asked me to return, but I'm open to it."

May the force be with fans who hope to see her return!
