Starbucks is a morning staple for many people, but it can be an unhealthy habit depending on what you order.

Many of their specialty drinks are made with flavored syrups or creams that can really add up in terms of calories and sugar. With that in mind, finding a healthy Starbucks drink that you actually enjoy is crucial in making your coffee habit a healthy one.

Read on for nutritionist-approved Starbucks orders that you’re going to want to try asap!

Americano

Americano

Ordering an Americano is probably your best bet if you want to keep your drink low in calories and sugar.

Speaking to Delish, nutritionist and 1AND1 LIFE expert Silvia Carli, explains, "Any added flavor (at Starbucks they come in a form of syrup) will add sugar and calories and a bunch of artificial coloring agents."

Likewise, a simple order is the way to go. So if you can stomach black coffee, this is the order for you.

flat white

Another great option if you need something a little milder is a Flat White. Colleen Christensen, RD, of Nutrition INC, explained to Delish: "I love that it is made with simple ingredients, just milk and espresso."

Plus, "The milk provides a protein punch as well as some fat when whole milk is chosen. Both of these contribute to helping you feel full and satisfied, allowing you to get on with your morning sans sugar crash."

matcha latte

Trista Best, registered dietitian at Balance One Supplements, Environmental Health Specialist, and adjunct nutrition professor, recommends this drink because of its high antioxidant content.

She also explains that the sugar in this drink should not worry you too much: "The sugar content is concerning at first, but the nearly 30 grams of sugar comes from the milk added, which is naturally occurring. This number can be reduced by opting for no milk, soy, or other plant-based milks."

If you're looking to try something different but still want a caffeine fix, this is definitely the drink for you.

nitro cold brew

Nitro Cold Brew

Another great Starbucks order is the Nitro Cold Brew, which is perfect for those trying to stick to a low calorie diet.

Tommy Pederson, bodybuilder and nutritionist for Vekhayn, explains, "My friend introduced me to the nitro drinks and I was stunned by how low the calories are. For a simple 16-ounce coffee (the grande size!) you will barely pass 250 calories. Not to mention the great taste and high caffeine will jump start your day and keep you energized."
