For most of us, our day cannot get started without our routine cup of coffee. And the good news is that coffee is actually a healthy drink to have in the morning because it is rich in fiber and helps prevent diseases like diabetes or heart disease.

But, not everything about your daily cup of coffee is good for you. You might be surprised to learn that one of the most popular coffee additives is actually wreaking havoc on your body and preventing you from losing weight.

Stop Putting Sugar In Your Coffee

If you’re putting sugar in your coffee, you are hurting your body more than you realize. Sugar can wreck your metabolism, cause inflammation and spike your blood sugar to send you crashing in just a few hours.

Researchers have discovered that the average coffee drinker is adding three teaspoons of sugar to each cup of coffee, which is way more than the recommended limit.

According to the American Heart Association, women should consume up to 6 teaspoons of added sugar each day. For men, the recommended amount is no more than 9 teaspoons of sugar per day. This means that you’re halfway to your recommended sugar intake limit after just one cup of coffee, or that you reach the limit if you have two cups of coffee per day.

What You Can Try Instead Of Sugar

The best thing you can do for yourself and your morning cup of coffee is to eliminate the added sugar completely. If you aren’t a fan of black coffee, there are other ways to make your drink more enjoyable like a few tablespoons of low-fat milk. You can even try adding some cinnamon or dark chocolate to your coffee for some extra flavor and sweetness that won’t hurt your health.
