Subway just added a bunch of new sandwiches to their menu for spring, and while many customers are excited to try their new options, some still have their hearts set on a discontinued one. While the fast food chain just unveiled two all-new offerings and four revamped subs, some fans on Twitter are still deeming their Meatless Meatball Marinara sandwich (R.I.P.) their “best one.”

Subway Unveils New & Improved Subs For Spring
You’re probably already familiar with the following Subway classics: the Sweet Onion Teriyaki, Italian B.M.T., Chicken & Bacon Ranch and Spicy Italian. The chain revealed last week that they have plans to revamp each of these into upgraded, “even more craveable” versions: the All-Pro Sweet Onion Teriyaki, Ultimate B.M.T., Elite Chicken & Bacon Ranch and Hotshot Italiano.

Their Ultimate B.M.T. is composed of “Tender Genoa salami, spicy pepperoni and savory Black Forest ham” on Artisan Italian bread, and topped with “provolone cheese, crisp lettuce, tomatoes, and red onions and drizzled with MVP Parmesan Vinaigrette.”

While many fans on Instagram and Twitter are “excited” about the chain’s new menu and sandwiches to try, others are still hung up on the chain’s now discontinued Meatless Meatball Marinara sub. The former offering, and plant-based meatballs themselves were introduced to Subway customers in 2019 in the US, Canada, Ireland and the UK, and disappeared from menus everywhere in 2022, according to devastated Twitter users.
Fans Tweet About Missing Subway’s Meatless Meatball Marinara
The beloved former Subway sandwich, as Delish writes, was made with “plant-based non-meatballs, smothered in the signature marinara sauce and topped with melted vegan cheese” as a spin-off of the iconic Meatball Marinara sub.
On May 2nd, a fan wrote on Twitter, “@SUBWAY bring back the meatless meatballs pronto….best thing on your menu and you remove it.” Someone else agreed, tweeting, “@SUBWAY will u please bring back the meatless meatballs. I’m beggin.”

@SUBWAY what happened to your menu? No meatless meatballs, no meatless chicken breast, no vegan cheese. Such a disappointment :/

In the past few months, more users stressed just how much the former menu offering meant to them, with one writing to the chain, “what happened to your menu? No meatless meatballs, no meatless chicken breast, no vegan cheese. Such a disappointment.”
Another tweeted, after realizing their favorite item was gone from the menu, “subway stopped doing meatless meatballs? this is my thirteenth reason fr.” Someone else joked, “bring back the meatless meatballs or i’ll scream into my pillow tonight.”

In August of 2022, Subway’s UK account tweeted, “Subway’s Meatless Meatball Marinara is going on a bit of a break and will be removed from menus across the UK & Ireland. We’re now developing a series of new, improved and even more delicious meatless options with our partner the Vegetarian Butcher.”
When asked if the sandwich would ever return, Subway replied to a fan, “We can’t guarantee you that it will or won’t. I guess we will have to wait and see, stay tuned mate.” Here’s hoping it is reinstated not only across the pond, but also in the US and Canada as well!
