Health Experts Agree: This Is The One Subway Sandwich You Should Stop Ordering Immediately (It’s Loaded With Sodium!)

Subway restaurants are known for being the healthier option among other fast food chains, but experts warn that this *doesn’t* mean that every item on the menu is a home-run for your health (or waistline). There are a few sandwiches that have exceptionally high sodium content, and thus should be avoided at all costs when visiting the sandwich chain. What are they?
Spicy Italian Sub“If you’re trying to watch your sodium intake, steer clear of the Spicy Italian Sub,” Jay Cowin, NNCP, RNT, RNC, CHN, CSNA, director of formulation at ASYSTEM tells us.
The sandwich has a whopping 1570 mg of sodium and 24 grams of fat, Cowin warns.
“It also boasts the second highest calorie content (Chicken and Bacon Ranch Melt being number one) among all sandwiches on the menu at 420 calories,” he continues. Yikes!
So, what should you order instead? “The six-inch turkey on 9-grain wheat with lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, and guacamole,” Sylvia Melendez-Klinger, MS, RD, founder of Hispanic Food Communications advises.
