While maintaining a well-rounded skincare routine is the best way to ensure youthful, healthy-looking skin, there are other factors you should consider. The skin is an organ, and that means it responds just as much to your diet and habits as any other part of your body. And your skin can also be negatively impacted by foods.

If margarine is a part of your current diet and your skin isn’t in the place you want it in, you need to cut this out of your routine. Most people tend to pick margarine over butter because it has a lower fat content, but it is made with all the worst fats that can actually stress or damage skin, and might even cause wrinkles.

The truth is that margarine is actually worse for your body and skin than moderate amounts of real butter because it is high in hydrogenated oils, which can weaken your skin and make it more susceptible to damage caused by UV light. This hurts your skin’s collagen production and can cause signs of aging to worsen.

Eating margarine has been linked to decreasing skin elasticity and increasing inflammation. Even if margarine doesn’t cause wrinkles for your skin, it might still cause a dull, lackluster or rough appearance.

Consider the effects all foods in your diet have on skin. Fruits and vegetables that are high in vitamins and minerals are the best foods for your skin, because they can promote collagen production, balance hydration and promote an all-over softer and smoother appearance.
