Beauty expert, Nicole Pearl has been there and made foundation mistakes so you no longer have to. She shared, “I’m 43, so I can promise that my commentary comes from my professional and personal experience.”
So what’s a major mistake that over-40 beauties make when it comes to their makeup? “A major mistake people make is that they feel as though they need a full-coverage foundation and a heavy hand when applying to hide sun spots, large pores, etc.”
Pearl explains that piling on the full-coverage foundation can actually age you.
“This ends up adding years to your skin - the foundation will settle into fine lines and pores, which accentuates them. Also, our skin gets dryer as we age, so if you apply too thick of a foundation, it will inevitably end up looking cakey.”
So if full-coverage is off the table, what should you use instead? Pearl recommends a lighter liquid foundation. “I would recommend a liquid foundation over a powder. And if you use a full-coverage foundation, stay away from a matte finish. You want to add brightness to your skin so a luminous finish is a better option.”
A bonus hot tip? Mix in some moisturizer! “A trick is to mix your full-coverage foundation with some moisturizer to ensure it’s not too thick when applying.”
