Winter is my least favorite season, at least for my beauty routine. Sure, colder weather is great because you can break out your ankle boots and cozy sweaters, but is it really worth the dry, red skin and dull complexion that comes with it?
Our skin tends to dry out in the winter because the cold, dry air makes it harder for the skin to retain moisture. This often leads to a dull texture and dreary complexion.
To try to combat winter skin this season, we turned to the experts to learn how to “winterize” our beauty regimens.
Celebrity makeup artist and esthetician Desireé Delia told SheFinds that the best and most inexpensive tool for glowing skin is to incorporate more facial oils into your routine.
She said, “My favorite hack for keeping skin glowing all winter is a switch up in my nighttime skincare routine. Keep the moisturizer for your daytime routine and use an overnight oil like The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil.
“The vitamin E oil is perfect for evening because it is mega hydrating taking up to 8 hours to fully absorb into the skin elevating skin’s support for 24 hours full of lucious yummy dewy moisture. It’s suitable for all skin types which also makes it great and is visibly noticeable within the skin after the first use.”
Facial oils restore the skin by replenishing essential hydration and nourishing ingredients. They can be used in place of a serum or moisturizer, or along with your daily skincare steps. The best part about oils is you only need to apply a small amount to cover your whole face, since they come in such a rich and concentrated formula.
There’s a facial oil out there for every skin type, and they all accomplish the same thing: a plump, firm and clear complexion.
According to Dr. Mandy Davila, founder of Good Skin Club, the best facial oils are the ones that hydrate and heal.
She told SheFinds, “You want to look for ingredients like squalane, a biocompatible emollient that works to heal, balance oil production and moisturize skin leaving it soft and supple. Another ingredient to look for is azulene, an extract from chamomile that helps reduce redness and irritation which are pretty common during the colder months.”
The Best Facial Oils To Use
- Almond Oil: a gentle oil that smooths, hydrates and delivers vitamin A to the skin, plus works well for sensitive skin types.
- Argan Oil: a rich, soothing oil that works best for preventing damage, brightening skin and smoothing out fine lines.
- Jojoba Oil: a lightweight oil that breaks down sebum in the skin to reduce shine, while restoring moisture.
- Moringa Oil: an antioxidant-rich and lightweight oil that protects and repairs skin, with anti-inflammatory properties to calm irritation.
- Rosehip Oil: an oil widely used on acne-prone skin, providing intense hydration and reducing redness.
