While navigating your weight loss journey, there are several roadblocks you may run into. For example, maybe you fall for ineffective supplements, end up eating too few calories for your body to thrive, or find it extremely difficult to part with your beloved desserts. Or maybe, like many people, you just can’t let go of your inclination to snack. Unfortunately, many snacks out there are terrible for your overall health, especially if you’re trying to lose weight. It’s no secret that potato chips, in particular, are one major culprit of weight gain. However, don’t fret if you love chips. As it turns out, there is one type in particular that experts say you can enjoy in moderation and still lose weight: sweet potato chips.

To learn more about the health benefits of sweet potato chips and how they may help you reach your weight loss goals, we spoke to Lisa Richards, creator of The Candida Diet. She told us all about this healthy alternative to fattening potato chips. Find all of her expert insight below.

Sweet potato chips

Sometimes, chips will be calling your name. And when that craving hits, it's important to do your best not give into the salty goodness of highly processed, fattening potato chips. However, sweet potato chips make a fantastic alternative that just may hit the spot without putting your dream body at risk.

"Sweet potato chips can be a healthier chip alternative to prevent weight gain," Richard says. "Unlike traditional potato chips, sweet potato chips are lower in fat and calories and boast several essential nutrients."

That's right: eating sweet potato chips can actually be a good way to give your body many of the nutrients it needs in order to function to the best of its ability and smash all of your fat-blasting workouts. For one, Richards points out, "They are rich in dietary fiber, which aids in promoting a feeling of fullness and helps control appetite." That means you're less likely to overeat and load up on empty calories.

In addition to fiber, sweet potato chips also offer up vitamins A and C, which are antioxidants that Richards tells us can support your overall health and boost your immune system.

Plus, the slight sweetness of these chips could also help to satisfy your sweet tooth. "The natural sweetness of sweet potatoes may also curb cravings for sugary snacks, aiding in weight management," Richards says.

While you can buy a bag of sweet potato chips at the store, Richards recommends making them at home for the best health benefits. "When baked or air-fried with minimal oil, sweet potato chips can be a delicious and nutritious snack option for those looking to maintain a healthy weight and make better dietary choices," she says.

However, she also stresses the importance of moderation. Keep in mind that, as she reminds us, "Moderation is key, as excessive consumption can still lead to weight gain." But if you stick to a healthy serving size and incorporate these chips into a balanced diet, they make a fantastic alternative to processed snacks. Your body will thank you!
