Sydney Sweeney cleverly responded to critics who had negative things to say about her body after she was recently photographed in a bikini by paparazzi. The Immaculate actress, 27, addressed the criticism through an Instagram post for her 23 million followers.
The Euphoria alum posted a video on December 13th that compiled various harsh comments labeling her as “chunky,” “preggo” and “frumpy,” suggesting she needed to slim down. The video then transitioned to scenes of Sweeney training for her role as boxer Christy Martin in an upcoming biographical film, showing her working out, sparring in the ring, and showcasing her strength.

The Madame Web alum chose not to add a caption to the post. Many of Sweeney’s colleagues in the acting world, including Glen Powell, her co-star in the romantic comedy Anyone But You, stood up for her in the comments section. The Twisters star, 36, wrote: “You’re such a badass. This movie is gonna be [fire].”
Alien: Romulus star Isabela Merced received a “like” from Sweeney after she commented beneath the upload: “The thing is these people would never say it in person. Too scared. But if they ever did? best believe it’s hands.”

Riverdale alum Lili Reinhart also chimed in, noting that Sweeney looks “incredible and your dedication to your project is very inspiring.” Kesha (who has faced similar negative comments on social media) also referred to the White Lotus actress as a “strong baddie.”
Sweeney’s fans also weighed in, with one writing: “You’re on the big screen and they are sitting on their couches probably jobless and in their mom’s basement.”

Earlier this year, it was announced that Sweeney would portray Martin, 56, the trailblazing woman who was the first to sign a promotional contract with Don King, in an upcoming film. In May 2024, it was revealed that a biographical movie about the former professional boxer Martin was in the works. David Michôd was set to direct, with a screenplay co-written by Michôd and Mirrah Foulkes.
After finishing filming last month, the Handmaid's Tale star shared on Instagram that it was "one of the most emotional, transformative experiences" she has ever had. "This story is so much bigger than just a film," Sweeney wrote.
"It's a testament to resilience, survival, and finding the strength to keep fighting. I can't wait for you all to see it — not only because I'm proud of the transformation and the work I've poured into it, but because Christy's story deserves to be told."
