She is one of the most underrated, under appreciated actresses in Hollywood."
Sweeney is taking on the role of Martin in an untitled sports biopic, helmed by director David Michod, which has recently begun filming. Martin, 56, a former professional boxer, had an impressive career spanning from 1989 to 2012, earning the title of world champion in the super welterweight division in 2009.
Her life took a harrowing turn in 2010 when she survived a brutal murder attempt by her ex husband, James Martin, who attacked her with a knife and a gun in their Florida residence. Remarkably, she survived the ordeal. In 2012, her ex was found guilty of attempted second-degree murder and received a 25-year prison sentence. Fans, as seen on social media, clearly "can't wait" to see Sweeney bring Martin's "incredible story" to the big screen.
