Fast food fans have been venting their frustrations about rising prices and shrinking portions, and Taco Bell is the latest chain to come under fire. A viral TikTok by user @itsanniebelle has sparked discussion after she shared the cost of her recent Taco Bell order, comparing the chain to Chipotle (who has also recently been under fire for inflation) in terms of pricing. The video has resonated with many customers who feel the pinch of inflation and “shrinkflation” in their favorite fast food meals. Find all of the details below.

TikToker pays $32 for 12 tacos at Taco Bell

In her TikTok, @itsanniebelle describes her shock at the cost of a seemingly modest Taco Bell order. “Taco Bell, we need to talk. It’s been a while since I’ve ordered Taco Bell, but I was celebrating today, so I went and ordered 6 crunchy tacos and 6 soft tacos. And I remember back in the day when these were maybe 79 cents a piece,” she says. “Guess what I paid for 12 tacos? Just guess.” She goes on to reveal that the total was $32. The stark difference in price compared to past years left her, and many viewers, feeling “speechless.”

“But Taco Bell. You’re Taco Bell! Let me just tell ya, I better open this taco, it better be worth $2.50,” she says before revealing a slightly sad-looking taco. “Come on. Look at that.” However, she does note that it probably has “a little more meat than Chipotle will give you.”

The one highlight is that Taco Bell still passes the taste test. “They’re still good, Taco Bell. But we gotta fix this pricing,” she says. Her sentiment captures the frustration many customers feel about paying more for what seems like less food.

The comments on her TikTok reflect discontent with the fast food industry’s price hikes. One user remarked, “Taco Bell prices are outrageous now.

"I was genuinely speechless," the original poster agreed.

Nostalgia for more affordable times was evident in comments like, "I remember 29 cent tacos. and they actually put meat in it!"

This backlash against Taco Bell isn't an isolated incident but part of a larger trend where consumers are noticing higher prices and smaller portions across the fast food industry. The phenomenon, often referred to as "shrinkflation," has been a growing concern as companies adjust their prices and portion sizes in response to economic pressures. Fast food enthusiasts have been particularly vocal about their displeasure, noting that the value they once found in these quick meals is rapidly diminishing.

As the conversation around fast food pricing and quality continues, the message from loyal customers like @itsanniebelle is clear: something needs to change, or these beloved brands risk losing the trust and patronage of their once-devoted fanbase.
