Target has just announced that they will be adding hundreds of new products to their shelves in an attempt to become a destination for grocery shoppers.

According to Today, “This month, it is adding hundreds of new food and beverage items that shoppers can only find at its stores and website. It’s also launching a new premium line, Good & Gather Signature, with about 60 small-batch Italian sauces, gourmet pastas and pizzas and specialty coffees that cost $2.99 to $9.99.”

This addition to Target's shelves is a competitive move.

Today continues, "The effort is a bid at winning more market share from competitors like Walmart and Kroger. Target has lagged behind its rivals in the grocery aisle."

Adding these new grocery items is also a way for the company to help customers combat cooking fatigue.

Stephanie Lundquist, the Target's president of food and beverage, explained, "They are looking for inspiration. They are looking for products and ideas that can help them particularly with the dinnertime rut."

The label's low prices is also appealing.

Lundquist continued, "One of the things we’re seeing is they want to create dinner moments. They want to create special moments because they aren’t able to get out as much, and so those inspiring solutions paired with great value is what they’re looking for."

These new Target grocery items are all under their private label Good & Gather, which is Target’s largest in-house brand.
