Taylor Swift‘s surprise lyric change during her mash-up of “Clean” and “How You Get the Girl” from her 2014 hit album, 1989, continues to resonate with Swifties on social media.
During her October 27th Eras Tour concert in New Orleans, the Grammy-winning artist, 34, captivated the audience by singing segments from both songs, skillfully intertwining their choruses and even merging an entire line, leaving listeners deeply moved.
The new line that wowed fans was “that’s how you get clean” rather than “that’s how you get the girl.”
In the above viral clip, the “Anti-Hero” hitmaker donned a glitter-adorned, sleeveless blue dress and sat at her floral-adorned piano while singing.
On X (formerly Twitter), fans shared their thoughts soon after a video of Swift’s performance went viral. “AND THATS HOW YOU GET CLEAN!” is such a perfect ending,” one tweeted, adding: “i’m sobbing! the note changes all of it is amazing! she’s clean.”
Another replied: “One of the finest performances” as someone else concurred, noting: “That is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.” One other Swiftie added: “she’s so clever.”
In an extended video also shared on X, the “Cruel Summer” singer remarked that the night commemorated the 10th anniversary of the release of 1989. Before revealing the aforementioned viral lyric change, Swift acknowledged that the 1989 anniversary was “pretty special.”
