On Friday, Taylor Swift dropped the ‘Taylor’s Version’ of her Red album, originally released back in 2012. With the new album came 10 new songs, as well as a rerelease of the song “All Too Well” in a 10-minute version which shed new light on her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal. While the nine year age gap did raise eyebrows back when Swift first released the song, the 31-year-old singer added details to the re-recording which hinted that the age difference was a primary catalyst in their breakup.

Alongside a short film version of “All Too Well” starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien, Swift penned the new lyrics, “You said if we had been closer in age maybe it would have been fine / And that made me want to die.” However, the songstress didn’t stop there, adding, “And I was never good at telling jokes but the punch line goes/I’ll get older but your lovers stay my age.”
In the new version, Swift also alluded to Gyllenhaal missing her 21st birthday party, singing, “You who charmed my dad with self-effacing jokes / Sipping coffee like you’re on a late-night show / But then he watched me watch the front door all night, willing you to come / And he said, “It’s supposed to be fun turning twenty-one”.”

Gyllenhaal and Swift famously dated back in 2010 for three months, with the singer reportedly writing many of the songs on her Red album about the now 40-year-old actor. True to Swift’s jab about Gyllenhaal’s girlfriends staying the same age as she was, the Night Crawler star is currently dating 25-year-old model, Jeanne Cadieu.
While Swift has not outright confirmed “All Too Well” is about Gyllenhaal, fans are convinced the classically painful breakup song includes many details of their short-lived romance. With Sink and O’Brien starring in the short film as the respective ages the pair were when they dated, Swift has once again said everything about the relationship without actually confirming anything at all.
