Though Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn’s breakup made headlines this past April, fans are now speculating that their split could’ve actually occurred years earlier. On Nov 29th, Swift announced that she was putting her song, “You’re Losing Me (From The Vault),” that originally came out this past May, just one month after the breakup announcement, on all streaming services. That same day, her producer and collaborator Jack Antonoff posted an Instagram story telling fans that the heartbreaking song was actually written on Dec. 5th, 2021.
News came out in early April that Taylor and Joe broke up after over 6 years of dating, and fans were heartbroken for the singer, as some of her most loved-up songs, like “Cornelia Street,” “Lover,” and “Endgame,” are speculated to be about the Brit. But now, fans are thinking their relationship may have ended a lot earlier than we think, because “You’re Losing Me” points to a relationship on the rocks. Keep reading for more information.

Jack Antonoff reveals “You’re Losing Me” was written in 2021
The song, “You’re Losing Me” is a rather sad one, with the speaker wondering if their relationship has run its course, nearly begging the other person to show that they care. “I can’t fund a pulse / My heart won’t start anymore / For You / ‘Cause you’re losin’ me,” Taylor sings.
The second to last verse is what really makes fans think Taylor’s heartbreak is older than a few months: “Do something, babe, say something (say something) / Lose something, babe, risk something (you’re losin’ me) / Choose something, babe, I got nothing (got nothing) / to believe / Unless you’re choosin’ me.”
These lyrics certainly point to a relationship near its end—this didn't surprise fans. The real surprise came with Jack Antonoff's Instagram story: a picture of Taylor eating raisins in an orange knit sweater with the caption: "you're losing me is out today. a very special track from midnights sessions taht's finally steaming [sic]! written and recorded at my home on 12/5/21 right after taylor ate these raisins."
Fans speculate that Taylor & Joe split a long time ago
Fans immediately took to social media to share their thoughts on the song's true timeline. "So she felt this way for years," one person wrote. "Can't get over it was written in 2021," added another.
"2021—I'm going to be sick," a third person commented.
"I've been tryyyyying to tell swifties that Joe has BEEN an ex," another person wrote.
"I'm so unwell that she recorded this song in 2021!!!" a fifth fan posted.
Others cited Taylor's "Champagne Problems" music video, posted on Nov. 23th in 2021, in which she's singing in a wedding dress. Now that Jack Antonoff's revealed that "You're Losing Me" was written just days later, many fans are certain the pair was engaged or even married.
"Bro they had to have been engaged," one person wrote in a comment.
Gossip column Deuxmoi even went as far as to say, "[Taylor] DID have a ceremony in either 2020 or 2021 in the UK and it was described to me as a 'marriage' by more than one person. It was NEVER made legal. I will die on this hill! Put it on my tombstone!"
Enough is enough with these fabricated lies about Taylor from Deuxmoi. There was NEVER a marriage or ceremony of ANY kind. This is an insane thing to post. It’s time for you to be held accountable for the pain and trauma you cause with posts like these. pic.twitter.com/cFi0wQc9cp

However, Taylor Swift's publicist, Tree Paine, saw that things were getting out of hand and took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to shut these rumors down: "Enough is enough with these fabricated lies about Taylor from Deuxmoi," she wrote. "There was NEVER a marriage or ceremony of ANY kind. This is an insane thing to post. It's time for you to be held accountable for the pain and trauma you cause with posts like these."
