Along with a brand new collab, remix, and re-recording Taylor Swift also released a new song, “You’re Losing Me” last week. This track, as the Grammy winner revealed in a May 24th Instagram announcement post, was a “never before heard” tune and unveiled as part of her Midnights (Til Dawn Edition) deluxe album.
The heartrending song’s confessional and poignant lyrics allude to Swift’s recent breakup from her boyfriend of six years, Joe Alwyn, as fans are expressing on social media. The track, which has since been leaked online, was only available in CD format at Swift’s East Rutherford Eras Tour concerts over the weekend.

Taylor Swift Releases “You’re Losing Me,” And Fans Think It Was Inspired By Joe Alwyn
If you take a scroll on TikTok or Twitter lately, thousands of Swifties are reacting to the new song, deeming the track’s lyrics to be “painfully relatable,” “moving” and “heartbreaking,” as some wrote. Swift and Alwyn were romantically linked from 2016 to 2023, with countless outlets reporting their split in early April.
The 33-year-old “Anti-Hero” hitmaker had been somewhat open with fans about her relationship with the Favourite actor over the years, This meant dropping little Easter eggs that suggested her songs were about him, gushing over him in her Netflix documentary Miss Americana, and she even recently dished that the two had written music together during the pandemic.

Some lyrics from “You’re Losing Me” that fans seem to think refer to Swift and Alwyn calling it quits include those from its pre-chorus: “Do I throw out everything we built or keep it? / I’m getting tired even for a phoenix / Always risin’ from the ashes/ Mendin’ all her gashes / You might just have dealt the final blow.”
In the song’s bridge, many listeners are praising the following lines, which also could be about Swift and Alwyn’s longtime partnership that was rumored to have included an engagement at one point: “And I wouldn’t marry me either / A pathological people pleaser / Who only wanted you to see her.” Themes of neglecting a partner and not seeing and understanding them fully for who they are seem to be resonating with fans the most online.

Fans Praise Swift’s ‘Relatable’ And ‘Heartbreaking’ Lyricism
One fan wrote on Twitter soon after the song’s release, “you’re losing me by taylor swift is for the girlies who wants their man to ask them to stay but instead got an unclear goodbye.” Another added, “i’m gonna be the first to admit that you’re losing me is top 10 if not top 5 saddest taylor swift songs ever written.”
Potentially connecting the track to Alwyn, another fan commented, along with a meme of a man attempting to explain something with frantic notes on a bulletin board, “Explaining the implications of You’re Losing Me to my 30+ year old coworkers who have never heard the name “Joe Alwyn” before.”

Someone else chimed in, “If you look at the lyrics of You’re Losing Me it just shows that the relationship ended up falling apart as some relationships do. Not every breakup has to have a villain and a hero, the relationship just ended, that’s all there is to it.”
Along with “You’re Losing Me,” Swift’s new version of her tenth studio album Midnights also included a remix of her song “Karma” featuring rising rapper Ice Spice and a revamped edition of the song “Snow on the Beach” with Lana Del Rey.
