Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn allegedly just called it quits after dating for six years, and many Swifties are still in shock. Amid her record-breaking Eras Tour, the “Anti-Hero” singer, 33, also recently split from Alwyn, 32, as reported by insiders and multiple outlets.
Although they were a notoriously private couple, the Grammy winner was somewhat open with fans about her relationship with the Conversations with Friends actor, since they were first romantically linked in 2016.
Over the years, this meant dropping little Easter eggs that suggested her songs were about him, gushing over him in her Netflix documentary Miss Americana, and she even dished that the two wrote music together during the pandemic. (We’re not crying, you’re crying!)
So, the ultimate question remains— why did the duo break up? An insider supposedly sat down with Entertainment Tonight this week, and said that “Taylor and Joe are in totally different places in their lives right now.” Here’s what we know:

Taylor Swift Split From Joe Alwyn Due To 'Personality Differences,' Source Says
The source dished to the outlet, "It was more of Taylor’s decision to break up, but both of them realized that they weren’t completely right for one another. They had been together for such a long time and were spending so much time together, but their personalities were just too different. Joe is more introverted, shy and quiet."
The duo called it off in March, according to the insider, just as Swift headed on tour. This meant that there would be a lot of distance between them. "She's very focused on touring and her career right now," the source added.
"Taylor has nothing but respect for Joe and really loved and enjoyed all the time and memories she shared with him. They had a deep connection and she really appreciated that. She hopes they can be friendly in the future."

Taylor Swift Hints At Breakup During Arlington, Texas Concert
The publication also learned that the breakup was amicable and "it was not dramatic." Another source revealed that "the relationship had just run its course. It's why [Alwyn] hasn't been spotted at any shows."
Swift's Eras Tour began on March 17th in Glendale, Arizona. Two weeks later, during her Arlington, Texas tour stop, the "Bejeweled" hitmaker seemingly hinted at the split with a notable setlist change.
Rather than performing "Invisible String" — which fans believe is a love song about her relationship with Alwyn, she performed "The 1," which details a breakup. Both songs are from her 2020 album, Folklore, which Alwyn helped co-write several tracks for. In October 2022, Swift also revealed that Alwyn contributed lyrically to her tenth studio album, Midnights.
"One thing we said about the Eras Tour, ‘You think you can just go online, you think you can just scroll and know the setlist? You think you can just come prepared?'" Swift said to the audience during the Texas concert. "Let it be said about the Eras Tour: we're tricksy. That's what we are. We enjoy a good, healthy setlist hijinks."
