"Green tea makes for an excellent beverage alternative if you're trying to lose weight," explains New York-based nutritionist Regina Fazzini. "It's loaded with healthy antioxidants that have been proven to help decrease body weight and fat when combined with healthy lifestyle changes."
Those antioxidants Fazzini referenced are called catechins and they have been found to improve metabolic function, which then helps increase energy and the rate your body burns calories and fat.
Healthline notes that one study found that people who consumed green tea extract for 12 weeks experienced significant decreases in body weight, body fat and waist circumference, compared to a control group. Good to know!
This is also the case for matcha, which is a highly concentrated type of powdered green tea. It contains the same beneficial ingredients as regular green tea, meaning that it could potentially help with your fat loss efforts.
