The 6 Most Expensive Wedding Budget Items

August 25, 2015 by Linda DiProperzio

Throwing a wedding isn’t cheap--even if you’re on a tight budget, it almost always winds up costing more than anticipated. And there are a few items that are more expensive than the rest, so couples will want to take them into account when figuring out how much money to set aside for the big day. Here are the six most expensive wedding items to look out for.
The Venue. It should be no surprise that your location is probably going to be your biggest ticket item on your wedding day, with the average reception hall coming in at $12,000.
The Band. Many couples choose a DJ because it saves them money, but there’s something special about a great live band. Of course, that comes at a price, with bands in big cities charging as much as $5,000 and up to play a couple’s reception. And if you want them at the ceremony and cocktail hour, that’s extra.
The Photographer. While a great photographer doesn’t come cheap (think $2,500 and up), this is an area you don’t want to skimp on. After all, you’ll be looking at and showcasing these photos for years to come.
The Wedding Dress. While some brides don’t spend a lot on their wedding dress, the majority of brides decide to splurge on this special garment. After all, you’ll be the center of attention on one of the most important days of your life. It’s no wonder you’re willing to shell out more dough to look like a million bucks.
The Flowers & Decor. Beautiful blooms can really add to your ceremony and reception space. Depending on the size of the arrangements and the flowers you choose, this can also add big bucks to your budget. Other décor items--lighting, table settings, signs, etc.--also cost a pretty penny, depending on how elaborate you want to go.
The Honeymoon. Airfare, excursions, meals and more--most couples want to go all out for their first trip as husband and wife. Be sure to research destinations early to get the best deals on all of your travel needs.
