Blake Lively Is Included In The 'TIME100' Most Influentinal People List
Last week, TIME Magazine announced their 2025 'TIME100' list of 100 of the most influential people in the world. According to a press release, the list acknowledges people who "shape the world today" and define the future. Some of the people on this year's list include singer Ed Sheeran, actress Demi Moore, athlete Serena Williams, CEO of Google DeepMind Demis Hassabis, and rapper Snoop Dogg, who are each featured on five separate versions of the magazine's cover.
One of the people chosen to be on the list was Blake, who's reputation has become rather controversial ever since her legal battle against her former It Ends With Us director and co-star, Justin Baldoni. Since the lawsuits became public in the winter of 2024, more people came forward with their negative opinions about her, and she quickly became the target of massive public scrutiny.
Other than her alleged poor behavior on several film sets and press interviews, internet users also voiced their disappointment and anger that the Another Simple Favor star and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, also had their wedding at Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens in South Carolina back in 2012, as the venue has a dark history of slavery. This issue has been brought up several times on social media platforms, including X, and internet users have been mentioning it again since she was named an 'influential' person.
Internet Users Slam Blake Lively As 'Tone Deaf' On Social Media
Sherrilyn Ifill, an American lawyer who is famous for her work with the NAACP, wrote a blurb for TIME100 in honor of Blake being on the list. She wrote, "I don't know the Blake Lively of the red carpet. Or the Met Gala."
"I never watched Gossip Girl," Ifill continued. "The Blake Lively I know is a philanthropist."
In her writing, which was posted to X, the lawyer praises the Betty Buzz founder and her husband for their substantial 2019 donation to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and notes that she "did her homework" before finding the right cause to support.
While many would agree that her actions were admirable, many internet users still can't get over her other controversies, and believe they deem her unfit for an 'influential persons' list.
"What happened Time magazine?" asked an X user. "You used to be reputable!"
Another X user commented that the actress was "tone-deaf" given her history, and another wrote that her inclusion on the notable list was "ridiculous."
"What a joke," posted another user.
"Two things can be true at the same time," commented an X user.
"You can do good for others but still be horrible to one or more people outside of the good works."
