Donuts
Although donuts are delicious, they are also full of sugar. An average donut contains around 10 grams of sugar, which takes up a good percentage of the recommended daily sugar intake.
According to the American Heart Association, the recommended maximum daily sugar intake is 37.5 grams for men and 25 grams for women.
This much sugar can lead to an array of health problems like obesity, heart problems, and diabetes.
It can also affect your skin.
According to NBC, this is due to "glycation, in which the sugar in your bloodstream attaches to proteins to form harmful new molecules called advanced glycation end products (AGEs)."
These AGEs damage nearby proteins like collagen and elastin--which keep your skin looking young and wrinkle-free.
AGEs harm your skin in other ways too. NBC continues, "AGEs deactivate your body's natural antioxidant enzymes, leaving you more vulnerable to sun damage — still the main cause of skin aging."
With that in mind, limiting your sugar intake by cutting out sweets like donuts is a good idea.
