Picking out a healthy breakfast is an important component of weight loss. A diet-friendly breakfast can set the tone for the rest of your day, making it easier to make healthy decisions later on. However, some breakfast foods do the opposite–especially ones that are high in sugar.

With that in mind, keep reading for the one breakfast food you should never have before 10 AM!

Flavored Yogurt

Yogurt is a popular breakfast choice among those hoping to lose weight. However, depending on your yogurt choice, you could be doing your weight loss journey more harm than good.

Rebecca Lewis, RD for HelloFresh tells Eat This, Not That!, :While yogurt, in general, can be a good source of protein, calcium, and probiotics, those benefits are canceled out by the high sugar content if the yogurt is flavored."

Speaking to Cleveland Clinic, wellness dietitian Kristin Kirkpatrick, MS, RD, LD explained how this high sugar content in flavored yogurt can impact your day: "Some flavored yogurts have 36 grams [of sugar]! That far exceeds the 25-gram daily limit the American Heart Association has set for women and uses the entire 36 grams it has allotted for men."

That can also lead to difficulty in sticking to a healthy diet for the rest of the day.

Kirkpatrick continues, "That means, if you are choosing a highly sugar-laden option in the morning for breakfast, you’re loading up on sugar for your first meal of the day — which in turn sets the stage for craving sweet for the rest of the day."

With that in mind, if you are opting for flavored yogurt as your breakfast of choice, it's a good idea to re-evaluate and check how much sugar you're consuming.

Instead, opt for Greek yogurt and sweeten it naturally with fruit and honey.
