If you are hoping to lose weight, it’s important to reconsider your diet, specifically paying to what you are eating and how much of it you are consuming. Most foods can fit into any diet if they are in moderation, so its important to keep portions in mind when looking at your diet. However, if you (like many others) struggle to keep them in moderation, it might be time to consider cutting these unhealthy foods out altogether.

With that in mind, keep reading for the one food you should always avoid because it leads to weight gain.

Potato Chips

Potato chips are one food you should seriously consider cutting out of your diet, particularly if you want to slim down.

According to Healthline, "In observational studies, consuming French fries and potato chips has been linked to weight gain. One study even found that potato chips may contribute to more weight gain per serving than any other food."

Part of the problem with potato chips is their lack of nutritional value. Potato chips are full of empty calories--made of refined carbs. With that in mind, you can eat a lot of chips without feeling full, which can result in overeating.

Chips are also high in salt and fat--neither of which is conducive for weight loss.

Additionally, potato chips are addictive, making it even more difficult to keep them in moderation.

According to Metro US, "A new study has shown that potato chips are as addictive as hard drugs, and the habit is hard to quit."

With that in mind, if you are struggling to lose weight and haven't given up chips yet, it might be a good idea to reevaluate. Sticking to smaller portions of these salty treats is a good idea, but it can be incredibly difficult to stick to. With that in mind, it might be easier (and more effective) to give them up altogether.
