If you are hoping to lose weight, paying close attention to your diet is important. However, it’s not only what you eat that makes a difference–it also matters when too. According to Livestrong, “Your metabolism naturally slows during the night, especially because you’re most likely sleeping and not actively exercising, doing chores, or eating food.”
Since your metabolism is already slower at night, it’s important to avoid foods that contain large amounts of sugar to prevent weight gain.
Candy Bars
Candy bars are high in sugar. Typically, fructose is added to candy bars to make them sweeter. However, eating too much sugar can be detrimental for your weight.
According to Healthline, "When you consume a lot of fructose, the liver may become overloaded and turn some of it into fat."
Sugar is a source of empty calories, which you should definitely avoid if you are concerned about weight gain. Empty calories--like the ones found in sugar and refined grains--offer little nutritional value.
These calories rarely fill you up, which can lead to overeating.
Since most people eating after 8 PM are snacking, usually in front of the television, it's even easier to overeat without meaning to. This mindless snacking can definitely lead to weight gain.
With that in mind, restricting your sugar intake--especially at night--is an important step in achieving sustainable weight loss.
