The One ‘Healthy’ Breakfast Sandwich You Should NEVER Eat (It’s Over 1,100 Calories)

Burger King has launched a new, plant-based breakfast sandwich to their menu using Impossible Foods’ sausage for “The Impossible Croissan’wich.” BK’s new meatless breakfast sandwich features a croissant bun, eggs, American cheese, and (of course) Impossible sausage. The new breakfast sandwich will be available for a limited time in participating locations nationwide.

The addition of the Impossible Croissan’wich offers a breakfast sandwich option for plant-based eaters and vegetarians. However, if you’re thinking of trying it out yourself because  you equate plant-based with healthy, it’s probably a better idea to avoid.

For health-conscious customers, it might be best to stay away from this new menu addition. Burger King's other menu item with Impossible meat--the Impossible Whopper--showed just how unhealthy plant-based eating could be. According to CNET, "The Impossible Whopper contains 630 calories. That's not a small number for a single meal, but it is less than the original Whopper's -- excuse the pun -- whopping 660 calories. Combine with a soda and fries, and either meal will amount to more than 1,000 calories."

If we track the Impossible Croissan'wich calories, we get a similar total.

According to Mashed, this breakfast sandwich has 491 calories. Plus, if you add a soft drink and hash browns to your order, you consuming up to 1,000 calories for breakfast.

Plus, if you're looking to treat yourself to a breakfast sandwich--plant-based or otherwise--you could find more flavorful options elsewhere.

A writer at Thrillist who tried the Impossible Croissan'wich described it: "[The croissant bun] was a little buttery and a little flaky, its taste and texture fractions of the real deal. Sandwiched between American cheese and inimitable fast food egg (perhaps my favorite variety of chicken egg!), the Impossible sausage was too tangy, its texture too uncanny."

Although the Impossible Croissan'wich is a good option for any plant-based eaters hoping to indulge in a high-calorie, fast food breakfast, if you are looking for a healthy on-the-go breakfast option, it's a good idea to look elsewhere.
