Even people who pay close attention to their diet may not realize how important it is to choose the right oil when cooking. Specifically, some cooking oils can damage your metabolism and hurt your health overall without you even knowing. To make it easier to stay healthy, we found out the one cooking oil that you should definitely avoid.

Read on for the one type of oil you should never use when cooking!

Vegetable Oil

Although vegetable oil may sound healthy, it is actually one of the worst oils you can use when cooking. Lyssie Lakatos, RDN, and Tammy Lakatos Shames, RDN, co-owners of The Nutrition Twins warn against using it while speaking to Women's Health.

"When the oils aren’t specified and it’s just a mystery blend of oils, you don’t know what you’re getting," they explain.

In addition, some vegetable oils have a lower smoking point, meaning they'll burn at a lower temperature, which creates carcinogens according to Women's Health.

With that in mind, steering clear of vegetable oil while cooking can help keep you healthy.

In addition, many vegetable oils are high in trans fat, which can hurt your health. According to Healthline, "A high intake of trans fats is associated with all sorts of chronic diseases, including heart disease, obesity, cancer, and diabetes."

Instead of sticking with vegetable oil, try using avocado oil or extra virgin olive oil instead. Both of which are much healthier substitutes for cooking.

Moreover, by reaching for these instead of vegetable oil, you can do your longterm health a favor without sacrificing taste.
