Pretzels
Pretzels are sometimes considered a "healthy" snack, but if you are regularly reaching for them in your pantry, it's a good idea to reconsider.
Pretzels are high in sodium and can fat and calories to your diet that you might not want.
According to NBC, "Pretzels are mostly nutritionally empty. Sure, they’re lower in calories and fat compared to chips, but they really are not a healthful snack. One serving provides nearly a quarter of the sodium a person needs each day. Because pretzels are basically bland, seasoned varieties pump up the flavor, but also the calories, sodium and fat content."
Pretzels are full of empty calories, which can also lead to problems for weight loss.
Healthline explains, "They are also digested quickly, and have a high glycemic index. This means that they lead to rapid spikes in blood sugar and insulin levels after meals."
Although a quick digestion might not sound bad, it can lead to other problems you might not expect.
The article continues, "Eating foods high on the glycemic index has been linked to overeating and increased risk of many diseases."
With that in mind, it's a smart idea to keep pretzels out of the house.
However, if you are not ready to say goodbye to pretzels yet, try to switch to a whole wheat brand first, reducing the number of empty calories you're consuming.
