When picking out hair care products, it’s important to read the labels and check the ingredients. Specifically, if you are concerned about hair loss, avoiding certain common hair care ingredients is crucial.
Keep reading for the one product you should never use because it causes instant hair loss!
According to Lady Alopecia, there are a few ingredients you should definitely avoid to keep hair loss in check.
Sulfates
She explains the danger of sulfates, "Although they're more often found in shampoos, sulfates are active in many conditioners, too. These cleansing and foaming agents are pretty good at stripping the hair of debris and excess sebum."</p
Although this explains why they're in your products, it has its own set of problems. She continues, "However, sometimes they do too good a job – removing your hair's natural oils at the same time, which can cause it to become brittle and damaged... perhaps even leading to hair loss as a result. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) are the most common forms."
Parabens
She explains the danger of parabens: "These are common in many conditioners - particularly methylparaben, ethylparaben and propylparaben. They can irritate the skin and have even been reported to disrupt hormone function (which is a key trigger of hair loss)."
Silicones
Silicones are also a dangerous ingredeint. She explains. "This ingredient is one of the worst offenders because it delivers what customers want from their conditioners. It makes the hair very silky – at least, outwardly. However, that coat of silicon doesn't just apply to each hair shaft but to the scalp, also – clogging the pores and drying the hair from the inside out. So the instantly shiny hair isn't worth the damage you could be doing to your hair in the long run!"
Isopropyl Alcohol
Isopropyl alcohol is another ingredient you should stop using. She says, "If you see this item in the ingredients list of your regular conditioner, you should discontinue use ASAP. This particular substance is used in antifreeze, spray for wooden surfaces and shellac as well as certain conditioners... which may indicate how potent it is! And how harmful it could be for your hair."
